Webs with a view
Technically this should be a “Scene while walking” post because I definitely captured this while out for my morning walk along the Columbia River, but I decided I’d give it its own title this time. These spiders clearly created a nice condo development on the river, and get a stunning view in addition to there being plenty of delivery for their dining needs.
Yes, I know some people freak out about spiders. I like them because they eat stuff I don’t like and they don’t want to bother me as long as I don’t bother them. Fortunately, the ones along the river like to weave their magnificent homes well off the path, so I can see them without getting a face hug and turning into a ninja dancer.

On my morning walks by the Columbia River, I’ve recently been seeing giant pelicans (specifically, these are American White Pelicans with close to a ten foot wingspan!). It’s so cool to see them in flight – though I’m not equipped to get a nice photo of that. But I also spotted one in the water; the quality isn’t great because I’m far away and using my phone, but that silhouette is unmistakable!
Yellow and Green
When my husband insisted on putting plants into our pond, I wasn’t as keen. But he was definitely right about the water lilies – and now we regularly talk about it being a “5 lily day” when there are that many in bloom. Just gorgeous.
Peahens and chicks?
A while back my husband rather randomly plucked a small plant from the ground at a house he was fixing up and placed it on our rock wall. It has flourished – but apparently it would prefer a more flat placement? The top part grew much taller and now instead of it being “hens and chicks” it looks like it is more in the peacock family…
Pink and Blue
Since I have no frogs to photograph this year, I seem to be spending a lot of time with the dragonflies. When this guy landed on my lantana it created such a lovely moment. I hope you enjoy it!
lazy Sunday
I decided that I’d done enough yard work for the weekend and took some time to sit outside and enjoy the waterfall and pond. There were lots and lots of dragonflies flitting around, so naturally I got out the camera. What a pleasant way to spend the day.

Every day on my walk to and from my car at work I pass by this area on the Columbia River. On the hotter afternoons, it is incredibly tempting to just wade in. Someday I may just do that.

Also on my last DC trip I got a chance to walk by the Washington Monument – only now it’s all clad in scaffolding. This is in order to repair the earthquake damage. I suspect it will look this way for quite a while. It looks so weird.
Balanced
I left my camera set up outside one day, and my husband captured this lovely image. The blue dragonflies are the most common to see in our yard, and they certainly love to perch on the tips of plants.
