On my walk to my office this morning I spotted this spunky flower growing up through the sidewalk crack. It looks to me like a dandelion but albino – or even more different, because it almost looks clear. I thought it was fascinating.
Gnatty
My husband and I were just looking outside and saw a lot of stuff floating in the air. Upon closer inspection we realized there were a bazillion gnats* flying around. The following conversation ensued:
Me: How am I supposed to mow the lawn if I can’t go outside?
Him: Why can’t you go outside?
Me: They could kill me!
Him: They’re not going to kill you.
Me: They could swarm.
Him: …
Me: Death by gnat bite is a bad way to go, dude.
*any small unidentified flying insect is a gnat. look it up.
Pink and puffy
Sugar Thieves
My husband was in Australia for business recently. He sent me a photo-text from breakfast and asked if this parrot was cuter than our cat (her name is Stray Cat):
Before I had a chance to respond, he sent this photo and told me that they swoop in when your coffee is served and steal the sugar packages:
The following text conversation ensued:
Husband: Stray Cat is cuter.
Me: But they are more colorful and you don’t use sugar in your coffee anyway.
Husband: You’re right. Stray Cat is out. I want a parrot.
Me: I’ll let her know.

Getting Chilly
Scene while walking: September 9, 2014
I was walking by the river on the path and I started to move to the side to allow a bicyclist to pass by. I suddenly realized I didn’t want to move too far over…
However, I’d rather have this guy than deal with all the bugs he must be eating. (sadly, the leaves are in focus and not the spider but that’s the way things go sometimes!)

I needed to take my car for service. For most people this means finding someone else to follow them so they have a ride home. However, I realized the service garage is four miles from my house and that is completely walkable! So I drove there, dropped off my car, and headed home. This meant I was walking a route that I don’t usually walk, so I got to see new things. I ran across these metal rusty palm trees – they look super cool and I would have them in my yard.
