The only thing that turns me into a five year old squealing “BUNNY!” faster than seeing a bunny is seeing a BABY BUNNY. And this one let me get close. Then he gave me the side-eye before heading into the brambles.

In the canal by my home, there are a couple of duck moms who appear to have banded together to share the duties of caring for their large number of ducklings (see one adult on each side of the group of kids). You’ll need to click for the larger version, and even then the mom on the right side is well camouflaged. There are FOURTEEN ducklings!

I’m seeing this tree (really tall bush? okay, definitely in the plant family) a lot as I walk around and I haven’t noticed it before. I have not yet completed a full year of walking intentionally around my neighborhood and where I work so I’m still running into plants that look quite different than they do other times of the year. Anyway. I like this – it reminds me of Japanese maples in that the color is right and the leaves are feathery (yes, I know not all Japanese maples fit that description. Work with me.)
So, if you know what this is, I’d like to know. Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the unexpected hiatus – work intervened rather significantly in the last week. But I was still walking and I saw something I had not yet seen before! I suspect for a large number of people seeing a snake crossing the path wouldn’t be something that makes them happy, but it was for me. I like snakes. He moved into the shade under a basalt boulder as the day was quite warm. He’s about 3 feet long.

One thing I love about dogwoods compared to cherry trees is that their blooms last a very very long time. I get to enjoy them over and over.
