As summer gives way to autumn, the mornings are getting a little chilly. This leads to puffed up birds at the bird feeders. I liked the contemplative look on this one’s face.

Scene while walking: September 9, 2014
I was walking by the river on the path and I started to move to the side to allow a bicyclist to pass by. I suddenly realized I didn’t want to move too far over…
However, I’d rather have this guy than deal with all the bugs he must be eating. (sadly, the leaves are in focus and not the spider but that’s the way things go sometimes!)
Lunch break
Beautiful weather recently – I took advantage and got my lunch from a local food truck and walked down to the river to eat. This was my view. I should do this more often!

I needed to take my car for service. For most people this means finding someone else to follow them so they have a ride home. However, I realized the service garage is four miles from my house and that is completely walkable! So I drove there, dropped off my car, and headed home. This meant I was walking a route that I don’t usually walk, so I got to see new things. I ran across these metal rusty palm trees – they look super cool and I would have them in my yard.

My last evening in San Francisco a group of us looked for a place to eat near our hotel. I found this little mom-and-pop shop on Google Maps and it had really great reviews, so we walked there. It was very tiny and they were a little freaked out when our group of nine walked in, but they handled it well. The food was fantastic and the prices were very reasonable (and I got my sushi fix!)
However, many of us in the group were chemists and we all immediately had the same thought about this logo design – “that looks like hazard warnings!”

There were many lovely large plantings of lantana around the area where my hotel was. Where I live we need to keep it in pots to overwinter inside or treat it as an annual. Such a gorgeous flower.

When I’m traveling, I do a lot of walking in airports. Some are great for walking – being built with a circle involved like the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, for example. Others you have to walk back and forth through the terminal, perhaps with side trips to loop the gate areas. I can get several miles in depending on the length of layover. This past trip I was doing my walking in the Salt Lake City airport before my next flight. This giant teddy bear is near a chocolate shop and they keep re-decorating him. Looks like this time he’s going on vacation!

I’ve been on a business trip in San Francisco, and my hotel is near the airport on the Bay. So I’ve enjoyed early morning walks before meetings, and this was my view…
