We miss you, Brave Frog

It’s clear Brave Frog has moved on. We’re sad because he was fun to look at and his coloring made him stand out (as a Leopard Frog). Still, frogs do move around and will go as far as a mile (so I’ve read) to a new body of water. Given there is a canal across the street from us, a house with a pond two streets over, and the whole Yakima river about half a mile away, he certainly had his choice of new digs. I hope he’s doing well. This doesn’t mean you won’t see more photos of him – as I still have a bunch!

I’m pretty certain this is Cave Frog, but at this point Cave Frog, Uptown Frog, and Eyeballs all look a lot alike. Uptown apparently visits downtown sometimes, too. Nonetheless, it’s always nifty to see them in the lily pads. I guess “frog on a lily pad” is a cliché for a reason!

We have not seen Brave Frog for the past couple of days. We worry he decided to move elsewhere. That would be very sad.

Eyeballs has been observed catching insects on the lilies (not by me – I had the bad luck to look away just as he jumped and caught a fly – everyone ELSE got to watch). I don’t know why he let me get close enough to take this, but I’m happy he did! Notice his tiny fingers holding him in place. So cute!

Cave Frog has all the answers

Yes, this is a photo I posted on twitter/facebook a while back, but it’s a favorite so I wanted to add it here. It’s the first time I got a real close-up of Cave Frog. He looks so wise and patient.

I have no body image issues

Brave Frog flattened on a rock may be one of my favorite things. I have no idea why I find this so cute, but I do. I’m glad he likes to stay out while I wander around and take pictures.

Ready for my close-up

Uptown Frog came out in front of the plant that serves as the wall of his private residence and actually stayed quite still for a long while as I moved around with the tripod and camera. He dashed under as soon as my shadow altered the sun – I’d like to be able to use that to get better photos, but it’s hard to get into the right place and not have a shadow sometimes. I really love how his greens complement the greens in the plant’s stalks.
